Fair Backpacking Ethics-FBE

We adhere to the following ‘Fair Backpacking Ethics’ to protect the environment.

1. Travel in small groups

Larger groups make them less ethical, more selfish. This is one of the psychology theories. So travel in small groups if it is possible. Preferably travel alone or with less than 4 members. People in large groups speak loudly and it will impact badly on other backpackers and animals. Imagine a large number of people hanging out in your town with large bags. No one wants to be in the situation.

2. Reduce your backpack weight

The reason why you enter the deep woods and high mountains is to find your self and have a talk with friends in nature. You need to meet your friends in a pub if you find a easy way. Now you should be ashamed of yourselves for carrying a large bag. You are trying to pollute the land you never visited before with fats, alcohol and garbage. Carbon emissions will increase if you breathe hard. Are you aware that overloaded truck is mainly responsible for destroyed highways? Go lightly. And then walk, see and think more. It is true pleasure.

3. Reduce your foods

Nobody is actually starving for one-night backpacking trip. Rather, don’t you remember the rest of your food when backpacking? Many foods need lots of fuel. Consuming fuels in the stove means the use of limited resources and increased carbon emissions. It is enough to eat after finishing backpacking. We already eat lots of food contained fat and protein in a week.

4. Respect local residents

All the places many backpackers visited are living spaces for local residents. It is considered a solemn and serious place for them. We are just uninvited guests or strangers for them. Respect the local residents who are the landlords of the places. Be polite, humble and quiet. Exchange greetings with all your heart.

5. Contribute to the local economy

Use local food if it is possible. Foods in major supermarket chains are never cheaper than the foods in local supermarkets. It is a small thing but use a local supermarket or small shops. It can be a good experience to eat a meal in the stores on your way back.

6. Be interested in the local environment and preserve it

If you pay attention to the small things, you can see unique migratory birds, trees and grass when you visit some places. It is your duty to find a way to contribute to the local environment as a visitor.

7. Be interested in local culture and history

We are a nation with a continuous history and have wonderful traditions. Every mountain and every corner have their own story. Find out a name of rough peak and listen to the story of a tree at the entrance to the town. It will make your life a lot richer.
